Center of My Heart (by Jeff McAndrew and Fred Hersom)

Center of My Heart
Capo  None

(intro with oo’s)

You know I get a little weary
You know I get a little tired
You know that I miss you all the time
You I get unsettled
You know I get unwound
You know I would be lying if I said I didn’t want you around

You’re the center of my heart      (chorus)
Its your love I can’t ignore
I’m at a loss when we’re apart
In my life you’re the core

(guitar solo)

(repeat first two verses and chorus)

Outro with oo oo’s    and ad-lib ending

Living for Love (by Jeff McAndrew)

Living For Love

  August 8th, 2010

Here’s to the hope that is in our hearts
Here’s to the way that we live
Here’s to the way we express our love
Here’s to the way we shed our tears

If there was a way I could live my life
I’d live it out in the open
If there was one thing I could say to you
Say it out in the open

Chorus:
Conquering fears
Living for love
Conquering hate
Living for love

I say to you you have one life
Make it all that you can
We’re all alone on this pale blue dot
Let’s make it the best that we can..

(repeat chorus and end)

Baby Blues (by John Gorka)

"Baby Blues"

Capo on 3rd fret

This is a pretty straight forward blues progression:  E A B (w/7ths)  And like
the blues, it's all in the feel of the performance...

E7                    A7                             E7
I woke up this morning and your baby blues was on my mind, on my mind

A7                                                    E7
I woke up this morning, and your baby blues was on my mind

        B7                      A7                          E7
There's trouble in the kitchen, soon it will be lovin' time

Sister loves her honey, brother says the sun don't ever shine, ever shine
Sister loves her honey, brother says the sun don't shine
I'm in Pennsylvania, soon I will be doin' fine

CHORUS:
       A7
I said Oh, lady reel

       E7
I said Oh, lady moan

B7                                   E7
How long's it been, that you've been gone

(repeat chorus)

Papa bought a pistol, says he's gonna lead a life of crime, life of crime
Papa bought a piston, says he's gonna lead a life of crime
Mama's took to cussin', says she's gonna make him toe the line

(repeat chorus and end)

Modern Art (by Jeff McAndrew 2009)

Modern Art (a Tribute to Kenny Rankin)

Dark, clear blue skies
Stars, all in a line
While we wait for the full moon to rise
Capturing the rapture of your wonderful eyes tonight

Sad painted on smiles
Dancer with painted on style
Slow motion --- the energy rides
Ballet shoes on the road home tonight

You by the fire tonight
Singin your songs, making everything alright
Melodies live and melodies die
But the song in your heart will never go by…
Tonight…never go by tonight….

(repeat all three verses again and end with ad-lib improv)

Balloon Man (by Richard Shindell)

BALLOON MAN

DADGAD

Richard sometimes plays this on bouzouki, sometimes on guitar, sometimes DADGAD and sometimes regular tuning, and the "Not Far Now" version does not have a prominent acoustic guitar part. But this transcription (which is the way I play it, and which has a chord pattern closer to the "Mariana's EP" version) will let you play along with the CD. Just for fun, I've included the wonderful last verse, which only appears on the EP.

I'm (D)standing outside on the (G)balcony
Bal(D)loon man is passing be(G)low
(D)Making his way to the (G)park by the church
He (A)goes where the little ones (G)go

Bal(D)loon man's a little bit (G)ragged
His (D)glasses are slightly a(G)skew
(D)One lens is cracked
And his (G)shoes never match
And he (A)might have a screw loose or (G)two

(A)And you're so (G)far away
On the (D)other side of the (G)world
I just (Em)thought you should know
That bal(A)loon man lives in it (G)too (D)(G)

His (D)rig is a marvel of (G)equipoise
Leo(D)nardo might have de(G)signed
Bam(D)boo for the wide hori(G)zontals
(A)Pine for the vertical (G)rise

He's (D)wearing a flag-bearer's (G)harness
He's (D)holding the whole thing a(G)loft
Bal(D)loons all arrayed
He's a (G)one-man parade
If he(A) ran, he'd surely take off

(A)And you're so (G)far away
On the (D)other side of the (G)world
Thought you (Em)might like to know
That bal(A)loon man lives in it (G)too (D)(G)

But it's (D)cold up here on the (G)balcony
And it's (D)time that I went back in(G)side
Bal(D)loon man waits for the (G)light at the corner
I'll (A)watch 'til he goes out of (G)sight

There's a (D)wind that whips 'round that (G)corner
And he's (D)having a hell of a (G)time
He (D)staggers and it looks like he (G)might just go over
But (A)balloon man he puts up a fight

Nostalgia (by Jeff McAndrew April 2010)

NOSTALGIA

pointin toward heaven
without a clock
three ticks earlier, four ticks off
right now I'm sleepin' and dreamin' is just fine
is one minute yours
the other minute mine?
you come near, I come far
how it divides us, where we are.
comfort and pain
cycles of the day
you'll go your way
i'll go my way

chorus:

wanna go back to 1968
where sun was so strong and the future so great
i wanna go back and meet bart starr
i want to ride in the family car
the wind of is blowing and the peace is on my mind
rememberin days when everything was fine
(repeat verses and chorus and end)

BY JEFFREY MC ANDREW 2-12-2011

One...way…

Face to the wind of life….
One…way…
To stay…
Om…..Om…..
Peace….on Earth..
One way….for us….
I see you standing by the ocean….
Gazing so far and looking at the stars….
One...One way…
For us…..
One…One love
One love...for us...(repeat all verses and end)

Music (by Jeff McAndrew)

MUSIC

Music reflects the soul
Music reflects the whole
Music reflects the heart
So we never get old

It can show that we care
It show life’s a bear
It shape our life’s path
Or show a life raft

It confirms beliefs
It can change minds from afar
It can make us laugh or cry
With a sweet melody and guitar

Fuzzy Over You (by Jeff McAndrew)

FUZZY OVER YOU   BY JEFFREY MCANDREW April of 2010

One dream valentine
Dream ship love of mine
Mysterious love it’s true
Funny how the breezes flow
I’m getting fuzzy over you….

Who knows when time and dreams may end
This  valentine I’ll send
Colors of the rainbow tell me so
Ain’t it great to know
I’m feelin fuzzy over you…..

Walk in a park on a sunny day
Time when all our dreams will stay
Stay close we’re makin’ it home
Ain’t it amazing how everyone knows
I’m feeling fuzzy over you…

(repeat first verse and end)

On My Way Home (by Jeffrey McAndrew October of 2009)

On My Way Home

I am a young man, so cold and all alone
Standing in the big world, a man without a soul
Reached up to find it see what it’s going to be
Plant a big tree, you got to plant a big tree
On my way home, on my way home

Trying to tell what my life is all about
Searching for the big time, turning myself inside out
Scrapin’ the surface, with the vigor and the grace
Oh…oh, on my way home, on my way home

Finding my pathway and the one less taken
Trying to find security I’m stirred by not shaken
Seeing the courage, the rigor and the grace
Get along in life now, get along in life
On my way home,  On my way home
Seein’ the sunshine of the joy on your face
Seeking the laughter and the joy that you make
I’ll be here with you girl or else the sun will not shine
On my way home..on my way home

(repeat and ad-lib, and finish)

Sailing Away (by Jeff McAndrew and Fred Hersom)

"Sailing Away"

By Jeff McAndrew and Fred Hersom 07-03-2010

I see you sailin on  D G
I see you sailin away
Your smile and your love
Will never go away

Well you take my hand
And you take my heart
You say [all] the right words  [didn't hear in the recording]
Right from the start

{I see you sailin away
I see you sailin away}    {heard in recording but not written down by you}

Chorus 1

In life's deep oceans I now sail   A Em D A
Your lessons a beacon in my soul   A Em G A
In my heart your guidance does not fail A Em D A
With your love I'm never stranded on the shoals A Em G A

(guitar solo interlude)

Well, you’re proud of your son
Leave nothing undone
With vision and grace
We turn the next page

Chorus 2

You are an island in my soul  A Em D A
As I navigate the stormy seas A Em G A
No storm can gain control A Em D A
Cause you'll always sail with me A Em G A

Sailin away
Victorious day
The sky is so clear
As long as you are here...Dad

You're sailin away
And I'm sailin' on
You're sailin away
we're sailin on too
Sailin on we two  ----  don't need this at all just go with four lines above
instead??

Sailin away  (repeat and fade/ad lib)

So Says the Whippoorwill (by Richard Shindell)

SO SAYS THE WHIPPOORWILL

DADGAD

Capo I

On the album, Richard plays this in standard tuning, capo VII, with G-shaped chords. He also leaves out the "Father Brown" verse. I'll eventually work up an updated transcription, but in the meantime, here's how he was playing it live up until the CD was recorded. By the way, the "mountaineer" in the last verse is the late singer/songwriter Dave Carter.
The (D)(D/C#)(D/B)(D) sequence in the first, third and seventh line of each verse is a walkdown thing; use the bolded notes for the bass line:
(D): 000200
(D/C#): 040000
(D/B): 020000
(D): 000200

(A): 002200
(G): 550000
(/F#): 400000 (this just a transitional walkdown chord from the G to the Em)
(Em): 220000

Intro: (D)(D/C#)(D/B)(D)(G)(A)(D)
(D)The change could (D/C#)happen (D/B)any (D)day
(G)So says (A)the whippoor(D)will (D/B)
(D)It comes 'round (D/C#)for the (D/B)seeds I (D)leave
Out (G)on the window (A)sill
Be (G)free, you (D)fool, be (G)free, you (D)fool
She (G)sings (/F#)all (Em)after(A)noon
And as (D)if to (D/C#)show me (D/B)how it's (D)done
She (G)leaps in(A)to the (D)blue (D/B)

And the (D)change could (D/C#)happen (D/B)any (D)day
Or (G)so say (A)all the (D)guards (D/B)
(D)In the prison (D/C#)I have (D/B)built a(D)round
My (G)solitary (A)heart
(G)I tell my(D)self that (G)I'm al(D)right
That it's (G)not (/F#)so (Em)bad a (A)place
(D)Truth is that (D/C#)I'm just (D/B)scared to (D)death
Of (G)walking (A)through that (D)gate (D/B)

And the (D)change could (D/C#)happen (D/B)any (D)day
So (G)say my (A)true love's (D)eyes (D/B)
(D)They see in(D/C#)to my (D/B)sha(D)dows
With their (G)sweet forgiving (A)light
She (G)smiles and (D)says come (G)on, let's (D)go
Let's (G)stroll (/F#)the (Em)boule(A)vard
(D)It's such a (D/C#)shame to (D/B)waste the (D)night
(G)Just sitting (A)in the (D)dark (D/B)
